Role of a School Counselor

The purpose of the school counseling program at South School is to provide support to students in order to be successful academically, socially and emotionally.

The best part of being a counselor is our ability to develop relationships with all students throughout their entire experience here at North.  As counselors, we see students through teacher/parent referral for a myriad of reasons- some of which include changing families, friendship concerns, social skills, emotion management, and various other reasons.  Often, sessions with the children are through lunch bunch groups, during snack time, or during other scheduled times throughout the week.  Further, we believe that the most effective means of getting to know the students and their needs is going into the classrooms on a regular basis.  Topics discussed in the classroom include feelings, respect, learning styles, bullying, cyber safety, and many more.  At North School, we have begun using Choose Love.  Here is the link for more information. https://chooselovemovement.org/course/back-to-school-support-unit/
