6-8 p.m.

South School presents a retrospective of student work from all grades levels in the spring of each year. The Annual Student Art Show is a two-hour evening event where students and their families have the opportunity to view artwork throughout the school building. Students typically have one 2-D or flat work that is hung near their classroom. In recent years, students have had one 3-D work on tables near their classroom also. Students are encouraged to take home only their 3-D work the night of the art show to ensure the work gets home relatively in tack.

Students will create personal Art Show invitations and hand deliver them to families about 2-3 weeks prior to the event. Please continue to check this webpage and my Connors' Corner column published in the monthly issue of Hawk Talk for updated information.

Here are some things about your child's art class to keep in mind:

  • As always, in preparation for the art show, Grades 3, 4 and 5 will be keeping their artwork in their portfolios for the entire school year. This allows these learners to choose which work of art to enter into the show.

  •  Learners in Grades 1 and 2 will bring their work home on a monthly basis and eventually one art piece will be selected for the show.

  • The month of October means that learners in Grades 1-4 will create a clay project which will be fired in the school’s kiln in mid-November. The goal is to have learners bring their clay art home by Thanksgiving or shortly thereafter to share with their families.

  • Grade 5 learners will create their unique clay pinch pots in March which will then be on display at the Annual Student Art Show before they bring them home.
