#SecondGradeRocks!
Dear Families,
I am honored and excited to be your child’s second grade teacher
and look forward to working alongside you this year. Second grade is truly a
magical time! This year, we will continue to foster learning how to learn skills and independent work habits, while expanding on the foundational skills which will allow your child to blossom as a learner,
problem solver and caring classroom citizen.
We have many fun and interesting learning adventures ahead! Our
thematic units will include: Friendship/Building
Classroom Community, Astronauts/Moon, Owls, Bats, Folk & Fairy Tales, Penguins, Biographies, American Symbols, Cowboys and both Rainforest and Ocean
Habitats. Second graders will enjoy
several in-house field trips this year and learn computer & library
research skills to help enhance our units of study.
I can't wait to get
started!
Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns,
or to share happy news from home.
Warmly,
Supplies for Success!
Given our current circumstances, and the recommendations for children not to share materials, your child will need the following items to be prepared for the upcoming school year.
If you need help with any of
these things, please email me and I am happy to supply! All other supplies should be kept at home for use with homework
as our space is limited.
- Two-Pocket Folder (for
home/school correspondence)-pockets on bottom please. Please no textured covers, as we will be putting labels on the cover.
- 1 hard plastic pencil box
(8-1/2" W x 5-3/4" only please) Other sizes will be returned
home, as they will not fit in our table holder.

- 2 boxes of Crayola Crayons -24 pack
- 1 pack of colored pencils
- 1 subject spiral notebook - We will be gluing a cover on, so please not textured or themed covers as the paper won't stick. A good-old plain, normal size notebook will do. :)

- Headphones for the computer- The district is no longer providing personal headphones. Please send headphones in a labeled Ziploc Bag.
- 1 pair of Fiskars pointed tip scissors
- small manual pencil sharpener

Germ busters listed below.
Thank you for your help with Germ Busters. If possible, each trimester your
student should send in:
- 1 box of tissues
- 2 containers of wipes (as they become available)

Donations of Ziploc baggies (from snack to quart to
gallon), any size paper plates, napkins, and plastic forks or spoons
are always greatly appreciated and help to keep our classroom running smoothly.
Please also keep us in mind
if discarding unused scrapbook paper, craft supplies and board games for indoor recess. Thank
you!

The sections below are from the 2019-2020 School Year.
I will update these sections as soon as we have more information.
Thank you for your patience!

Our classroom team
wouldn't be complete without these amazing teachers!
We are excited to have Jackie Marden as our
Second Grade Team Special Education
Our fabulous reading team, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Walter & Mrs. Peterson will offer daily booster groups in reading to students
who would benefit from reinforcement practice. These groups are flexible and
change throughout the year depending upon the needs of our learners.
Additionally, we offer support booster groups in math led by Mrs. Russell
and Mrs. Lownie. If your child qualifies for either of these groups, a
permission letter will be sent home for you to sign.
Other teachers you might hear mentioned are: Mrs. Gingrow
our Guidance Counselor; Mrs. Ouellette and Mrs. Lovejoy our
Occupational Therapists; and Mrs. McCoy our Speech Pathologist.
Our specialists this year are: Mrs. Connors for
Art; Mr. Lohnes for P.E.; Mr. Freed for Music; Mrs. Lee for Math
Enrichment; and Mrs. Schilling, Mrs. Mercier & Mrs. Dillon
for Library.
How lucky we are!
Look for more information about these teachers on the South School website.
It is going to be a fantastic year!!
Snacks & Lunch
Snacks & Lunch
Get
ready to fill those lunchboxes!!
Our
mornings are filled with rich learning experiences that require good listening,
attention and stamina. For this reason, children should bring a healthy
snack and drink each day for our mid-morning break. This snack will be the
fuel to keep your child engaged in our learning. For this reason, we ask that
you choose healthy, low-sugar snack/drink items. Please
also send in a napkin each day and utensils if needed (and remember those water bottles on hot days).
Donations of district approved wipes are always appreciated
and help keep our tables germ-free for snacking!
Second graders eat lunch in the cafeteria each day.
We
need your help!! Please send any money for lunch,
milk, etc. in a sealed labeled envelope or baggy. Money can be
sent in weekly/monthly and accounts can be managed online as well. Keep in mind if we have a snow day, the hot lunch menu may change the following school day. If your child has dietary restrictions you may want to consider sending in a cold lunch on the day following a snow day.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Arrivals and Dismissals
Our
school day begins as students enter the classroom between 8:30-8:42 AM and ends at 3:13 P. M. If
you need to dismiss your child for an appointment, please keep in mind that in second grade the last period is an academic block and students are working right up until the
bell.
If
your child will be dismissed on a regular basis, please fill out a form with
the front office.
