Homework

Homework

In second grade the children take on more responsibility in this department. Your child will receive their homework for the week on Mondays in their plastic folders. We do this to accommodate your busy schedules. Each day we will check off the homework that was assigned for the previous night. So, if you know that your child has gymnastics on Tuesdays, they could complete both Monday and Tuesday's homework on Monday to avoid the time crunch on Tuesdays. The homework will be the same for each day of the week. They will complete a half page of math facts (Rocket Math) and a one-sided spelling sheet. They are also asked to read for fifteen minutes. This will be the routine for the majority of the school year. Library books are due the day before we have library each week. If your child does not complete their nightly homework, they will have to stay in to complete it and then go outside to recess.  Your only homework is to check over your child's work, write in the book they read, and sign off their sheet. The week of September 11th will be the first week of homework for the children.   Please help your child with their homework by providing a consistent area that they can sit in and complete their work with as little distractions as possible. The homework will be the same every night for them and will hopefully become a non-stressful nightly routine.  Please remind your child that although they can go ahead and complete their homework packet, they still need to return it daily, as well as read nightly. Thank you for helping your child to be successful and independent with our daily homework routine.

*Once an Xtramath.org account is set up for your child, they will be required to log on 3 times at home during the week to practice their math facts.
